Bringing the Town Hall back to life
Our new Isles of Scilly Museum and Cultural Centre has been years in the making.
Since the Museum closed when the building was condemned in 2019 we have been working with the Council of the Isles of Scilly on plans to restore the much-loved Grade II-listed Town Hall in Hugh Town on St Mary’s.
The new centre will house:-
A brand new Museum with four galleries sharing Scilly’s stories of shipwrecks and sea-faring, island life from the iron age to the present, nature around the Isles of Scilly and the islands’ role as an inspiration to artists and spiritual communities.
A 145 seat theatre where we can present professional and community shows, show films, host bands and exhibitions as well as markets, classes and even weddings and community celebrations.
A great new café and bar, open year-round, with fabulous views over Porthcressa.
A lively programme of events and activities for people of all ages.
A shop selling work by local artists and makers
We’re already running pop up exhibitions in the Steamship Office space on St Mary’s and working with our off island partners to create great new interpretation celebrating the unique culture and history of Bryher, St Agnes, St Martin’s and Tresco.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone.
