Miracle Theatre to bring Twelfth Night to Isles of Scilly
Cornwall’s most prolific touring theatre company is setting the stage for an unforgettable summer - as Miracle Theatre announces Twelfth Night as their new summer production.
Opening at the iconic Minack Theatre on 9 June, this high-spirited comedy is a joyous and chaotic tale, where love knows no boundaries.
Miracle is set to deliver a fresh, bold and accessible take on a beloved Shakespearean classic. It is the story of twins Sebastian and Viola who are separated from one another by sea and storm. Shipwrecked and without her brother for the first time, Viola finds herself washed up in Illyria, a playground for the hedonistic and lovesick elite. What unravels next sends the story spinning into a tangle of unrequited love, mistaken identities, hilarious awkwardness, cruelty, and mischief.
Prepare for belly laughs, heartache, gloriously outrageous characters, and a contemporary twist proving that it’s hearts, not parts, that truly matter!
First adapted by Miracle Theatre’s Founder Bill Scott in 2002, this new contemporary reimagining comes from Miracle’s Co-Artistic Director Sally Crooks - a longstanding Miracle collaborator who also directed the 2024 summer hit show, Love Riot. The talented cast of actors consists of long-time collaborators Daniel Richards, Sophie Dear, Benjamin Dyson, alongside Miracle newcomers Pip Cook and Jowan Jacobs – who’ll be playing Malvolio, a role originally played by his father in the 2002 production.
The imaginative new outdoor summer show is set under open skies with 48 performances across Cornwall and the southwest – starting at the Minack Theatre, then onto Trelissick Garden, Trerice House, Tresco, St Mawes and Restormel Castles and Enys Gardens amongst others - from June 9th – August 23rd.
Twelfth Night Director, Sally Crooks, says: “Twelfth Night is a kind of party that revels in high-spirited feasting and misrule that never fails to entertain. A delicious fusion of tomfoolery, cruelty, confusion and longing that is seriously funny. I’m thrilled to be working with this outrageously talented team of actors and makers to serve up a version that’s as lively, mischievous, and stirring as the play deserves.”
Miracle Theatre has been captivating audiences in Cornwall since 1979, touring 75 times and establishing itself as one of the South West's most distinctive voices in the performing arts.
With an esteemed reputation for playful, entertaining and immersive theatrical experiences – this new addition is no exception.
