A new play from Jack Brownridge-Kelly comes to Scilly

  • Kevrin, Out of Season touring Cornwall this September

  • Coming to Scilly on Wednesday 24 September, 7:30pm

  • Playing at The Old Town Inn, St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly

“Sometimes there’s a slight inclination, however small… and if there was, it would be really good to know.

Winter. Cornwall’s north coast. Charlotte has just been kicked out of her seasonal work accommodation. Fortunately for her, Tom and Michelle come to the rescue. The couple insist Charlotte stay in their empty second home. But when Michelle turns up alone, the evening unravels into one that will change their lives forever.

Tense, intelligent, and darkly funny, Kevrin, Out of Season is a pressure-cooker play marking Jack and Roisin’s second collaboration since the success of their award-nominated piece Cold, Dark Matters.

Jack said: "I am over the moon that Kevrin, Out of Season is finally being brought to life with the help of suchan accomplished crew. I started writing this play four years ago and it has gone through countless variations before reaching this point. I am so pleased to work with Roisin again whose creativity knows no bounds.

“The most exciting thing about this tour is that the places we visit are basically the same as the story's setting, and that combination will make the show utterly immersive. Cornish audiences can look forward to a very special and thrilling evening indeed.”

The action of the play takes play in real time over a single hour, with the two strong cast of Melanie Gray (Michelle) and Millie Faraway (Charlotte) bringing richness and intensity to the fast paced andgripping text. Performed in the round, with minimal set and technical elements, the play pulls audiences into the dilemma that bounds these two vastly different women.

Cornish Director Roisin said: “It’s really rare to get to delve into a play this electric. There is a constant push and pull between these two characters, which makes for a gripping drama. They are thrust into a situation neither of them want to be in, but that neither of them can escape.

“The play is a constant battle of power, a search for answers, and a desperate cry for help, which is a real gift to play with in the rehearsal room, especially with such talented performers.”

The production is produced by Cornwall based Jasmine Cole Productions and developed with support from The Royal Court, Carn to Cove, Culture on Scilly, and Arts Council England. This new production tours intimate venues across Cornwall, inviting audiences into the charged atmosphere of a single, life-altering evening.

From Crackington Haven to the Isles of Scilly the show is touring to village halls, community spaces and small theatres.
